“Draw The Line” Day of Action in Kamloops
Submitted by Patricia Spencer, KSfCA
Are you worried about climate change and its impact, and the failure of our governments to take substantial action to reduce emissions and help society transition away from fossil fuels? Would you like to take action yourself but don’t know what to do?
The newly formed Kamloops Seniors for Climate Action (KSfCA) is excited to join forces with the Youth of Kamloops Climate Action Network (YKCAN) to organize two related events this September. Many seniors, who may also be grandparents, are concerned about the kind of world we are leaving for future generations. And many young people feel frustrated that so little is being done to protect their future. Working together makes a lot of sense.
For our first collaboration, KSfCA and YKCAN hosted a table at the Kamloops Farmer’s Market on September 6 to share information about the Draw the Line Climate March coming up on September 20, 2025. This local event is part of a Canada-wide and global Climate Action Day called Draw the Line: For People, for Peace, for the Planet.
On Saturday, September 20 at 1 pm, KSfCA and YKCAN will be walking together through a section of Riverside Park, starting at the Rose Garden, carrying signs and playing some music. We also hope to have speakers at the beginning of the event. Please join us and bring a sign!
Our goal is to raise awareness about the urgency of the climate crisis and provide opportunities for people to connect with each other. We hope that folks from the Transition Kamloops community will join us. We need to keep our concerns about climate change and a lack of action by governments front and centre.
Although Kamloops has been blessed with a fairly smoke-free summer and no wildfires nearby so far this year, we all know that climate change is impacting our lives significantly, whether through wildfires, droughts, floods, heat domes or the related health effects from the latter. Climate change is affecting our food supply, the availability of drinking water, and the health of forests and ecosystems.
Please join KSfCA and YKCAN for the Draw the Line Climate March at the Rose Garden in Riverside Park on September 20 at 1 pm.
Acting together is our greatest strength and our greatest chance!
We are looking for more volunteers. Please contact Patricia Spencer, KSfCA, or YKCAN if you have questions and/or would like to help out.
More information about the Canada-wide event can be found at the Seniors for Climate website.
Transition Kamloops
Transition Kamloops is a volunteer-driven, registered not-for-profit society focused on increasing local resilience and self-sufficiency in food, water, energy, culture and wellness. We emphasize a local economy, healthy ecosystems, and grassroots community building, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. We believe in a better way: a community that sustains life in all its diversity, strives for equality and justice and invests in the future.
Transition Kamloops recognizes that we are living on Secwépemcul’ecw—land that was never ceded to settlers, and continues to be home to vibrant Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions. We acknowledge the impact of colonization, forced displacement, and ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples. We commit to listening, learning, and building positive relationships with Indigenous communities as we work towards reconciliation.
