CHEMAINUS – New Democrat MLA Debra Toporowski says people in the Cowichan Valley will benefit as local organizations receive grants to support music, visual art and history programs.

“People in the Cowichan Valley love our local arts and culture organizations,” said Debra Toporowski, MLA for Cowichan Valley. “This funding will help ensure that locals can continue to share their talents and stories with people.”

In the Cowichan Valley, 16 organizations are receiving Community Gaming Grants, totalling over $350,000, including:

  • Chemainus Festival of Murals Society, $25,000
  • Cowichan Wooden Boat Society, $39,600
  • British Columbia Forest Museum, $56,000
  • Cowichan Valley Arts Council, $22,000

Across B.C., 771 not-for-profit organizations received more than $16.6 million to support programs, services and activities related to music, theatre and dance, as well as literary and visual arts.

Program funds are provided from general revenues via provincial commercial gambling revenue in partnership with the B.C. Lottery Corporation.
