Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce holds a news conference in North York for the launch of the Nuclear Isotope Innovation Council of Ontario (NIICO). The expert panel will be tasked with identifying ways to expand the number of medical isotopes produced in the province, with the goal of doubling production over the next four years.

Lecce is joined by Vic Fedeli (Ontario minister of economic development), Andy Smith (president and CEO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre), James Scongack (chair of the NIICO), and Dr. Arjun Sahgal (senior scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute).

Responding to questions from reporters, Lecce confirms the Ontario government has officially cancelled its $100-million contract with Starlink to provide satellite internet in the province’s northern communities.
