Member of the Month – Kamloops Arts Council
For the member of the month – July, we interviewed KAC’s long-time member artist Solange Belleforte.
Full Name: Solange Belleforte
Medium: Mixed media, collage
How long have you been doing your art:
Since about 1995
What got you originally interested in the art you do;
A friend introduced me to another artist who became an excellent mentor and friend, it was her encouragement that led me to learn and produce what I do.
What is something you have learned about yourself through your art:
I don’t get offended if someone doesn’t like my art. It was hard at curse to “show and tell “but I got over that.
What do you most enjoy about art;
Finding images and photographs that tell a story when they are combined.
What is your favourite joke/quote;
Carpe Diem (Seize the day)
What is something most people don’t know about you;
I spent 40 years hiring, firing and inspiring employees, not always in that order (in human resources, sometimes known as inhuman resources!)
If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why;
Composition, because that is the foundation for everything else!
What do you think makes art important;
It is the outpouring of the human spirit and flows through the artist into the viewer’s eye and mind.
Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council:
Membership has offered me the opportunity to show my work, meet other artists and support the creatives in my community.
What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on):
To use some new techniques I have studied in a series if collages that might be a new solo show.
