NDP Leader Don Davies issued the following statement:

“Today, on Quebec’s Fête nationale, we celebrate the history, language, culture, and struggles of the people of Quebec.

Quebec holds a unique and essential place in Canada. Its cultural richness, commitment to social justice, and determination to defend its values inspire the entire country. On this day of celebration, we pay tribute to generations of Quebecers who have helped build a more equitable, inclusive, and progressive society.

Fête nationale is also a time to recognize the ongoing challenges we face. These include protecting the French language, fighting economic inequality, advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and ensuring a just future for younger generations.

The NDP stands in solidarity with Quebec’s workers, families, and communities. We will continue to support a strong and open Quebec—respected in its choices and aspirations—within a fairer Canada.

Happy Fête nationale to all!”
