Can Ottawa easily meet NATO’s 2% target? Strategists panel

June 12, 2025 at 2:47 pm  Federal, Politics, Video

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced earlier this week Canada’s pledge to meet the current NATO contribution target of 2% of the country’s GDP. But does the government have to sacrifice programs or increase its debt to achieve this when it promised to be better fiscal stewards than the Trudeau administration? CPAC’s Michael Serapio discusses the issue with strategists Susan Smith (Liberal), Cole Hogan (Conservative) and George Soule (NDP).

The panel also covers Pierre Poilievre’s new support numbers by Nanos and the controversy surrounding certain invitations extended by Ottawa for the G7.
