Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Philippine Independence Day:

“Today, Filipinos across the globe pause to celebrate their rich history and heritage. One hundred and twenty-seven years ago, the Philippines declared its independence – seeking to chart a bold new course as a free and sovereign nation.

“Over a century later, Filipino culture is known and loved all over the world. The languages, folklore, music and cuisine of these storied islands are all invaluable contributions to humanity.

“This holiday is also a special one for many here in Canada. As we mark Filipino Heritage Month, we reflect on the contributions that this vibrant community has made to our national life.

“I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with countless Canadians of Filipino heritage all across our great nation. Deeply rooted in our shared values of faith, family and freedom, I know that their generations of hard work and sacrifice have built a better life for us all.

“On behalf of Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives, I want to wish everyone celebrating a happy Philippine Independence Day and Filipino Heritage Month!

“Mabuhay ang mga Filipino!”
