BURNABY– BC NDP MLAs Rohini Arora and Janet Routledge say innovative projects in Burnaby will help recycle plastic, prevent waste, and create good, clean jobs.

“With more zero-waste products available, we can all take steps to reduce our dependence on single-use plastics and keep our environment healthy,” says Rohini Arora, MLA for Burnaby East. “I’m excited to see this funding support innovative, sustainable businesses like Ecorefillery here in Burnaby.”

The following projects in Burnaby are receiving funding:

  • Ecorefillery, zero-waste commercial cleaning supplies, $341,000

  • Mother Earth Recycling, expansion of PVB plastic recycling from windshields, $497,264

“I’m thrilled to see funding go towards closed-loop recycling systems like at Mother Earth Recycling,” says Janet Routledge, MLA for Burnaby North. “When we divert recyclable items from landfills, we help to keep our environment cleaner for generations to come.”

The CleanBC Plastics Action Fund supports projects that prevent and reduce plastic waste in B.C. First launched in 2020, the fund has invested over $35 million into projects that find creative solutions to help reduce plastic waste in our communities. This year, the provincial government is providing more than $8 million through the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund to local businesses, foundations and First Nations. The funding will support 34 new projects, with 63 projects having received funding in previous years. The first two phases of the Plastics Action Fund have already created over 240 direct long-term, full-time jobs, with more on the way in Phase 3.
