Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Shavuot

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Shavuot:

“Thousands of years ago, the Israelites stood at the foot of Mount Sinai to receive G-d’s law. With this incredible gift, the Jewish people were ushered into freedom, as a nation with self-determination and a shared purpose that would guide them through even the darkest moments in history.

“Throughout centuries of exile, persecution, and hardship, the Torah, in all its wisdom, has remained the heart of Jewish life. Through challenge and triumph, it has served as a consistent reminder of the covenantal bond between G-d and His people, empowering them to endure, rebuild, and create a future rooted in faith, wisdom, and hope.

“As Jews conclude the Counting of the Omer and begin the celebration of Shavuot, we reflect on their remarkable history and the timeless teachings that have kept them strong for generations. Today, as they confront Hamas and a new wave of antisemitism, we are encouraged by the Torah’s continuing wisdom and G-d’s promise of justice and loyalty to His people.

“Chag Shavuot Sameach!”
