Ministers speak with reporters as new cabinet meets – May 14, 2025

Ministers and secretaries of state speak with reporters on Parliament Hill ahead of the first meeting of the new federal cabinet. Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his cabinet on Tuesday, just over two weeks after leading the Liberals to re-election.

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly comments on Honda’s announcement that it is delaying a $15-billion EV battery project in Ontario. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand discusses issues relating to humanitarian aid reaching Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas war.

Ministers Patty Hajdu (jobs and families), Tim Hodgson (energy and natural resources), Maninder Sidhu (international trade), Chrystia Freeland (transport and internal trade), Steven MacKinnon (government House leader), Gregor Robertson (housing and infrastructure), Evan Solomon (artificial intelligence and digital innovation), Sean Fraser (justice), Steven Guilbeault (Canadian identity and culture), Rechie Valdez (women and gender equality) and secretaries of state Wayne Long (Canada Revenue Agency and financial institutions) and Stephen Fuhr (defence procurement) face questions related to their new portfolios.
