Indigenous women’s groups announce MMIWG2S+ data collection project – May 5, 2025

In Ottawa, representatives from several Indigenous women’s organizations announce a data-collection project focused on missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S+). The announcement takes place on the National Day of Awareness for MMIWG2S+, also known as Red Dress Day.

In attendance are Nikki Komaksiutiksak (president and CEO of Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada), Cora McGuire-Cyrette (CEO of the Ontario Native Women’s Association), Kristen Gilchrist (director of MMIWG2S initiatives for Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak), and Imriel Bissnette (national research coordinator for 2 Spirits in Motion Society).
