Alberta introduces new addiction recovery bill – April 15, 2025

Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta, and Dan Williams, the minister of mental health and addiction, speak with reporters in Edmonton after introducing legislation to support addiction recovery. Originally proposed in 2023, the “Compassionate Care Act” would allow a family member, doctor or police officer to request a mandatory treatment order if someone is deemed a danger to themselves or others.
