NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

BC Conservative MLA Brennan Day says he did not consent to his name being attached to Kindy’s harmful letter in multiple emails to constituents

A Facebook post shared yesterday shows an email addressed to “Paul,” in which Brennan Day appears to say that he “did not consent to [his] name being included on the letter, certainly not one on MLA letterhead.”

Day goes on to say he “will be taking this up with [his] colleague.”

In an email addressed to another constituent, Day once again appears to distance himself from Anna Kindy’s harmful letter.

Questions for Brennan Day:

  • Does he stand behind the letter defending Gunn?
  • Does he agree with Gunn that Canada’s historic treatment of Indigenous people was not a genocide?
  • Will he condemn Anna Kindy’s defence of residential school denialist comments?

Anna Kindy has posted a statement suggesting that putting her letter on legislative letter head was “a mistake” – but has not spoken to the content of the letter. Dozens of local leaders, including many Indigenous chiefs have written a letter condemning Gunn’s comments in response to Kindy’s letter.

BC NDP MLA Ravi Parmar: “If Brennan Day did not give his consent for his name to be added to this letter defending residential school denialist comments, he should say so publicly. Residents of Courtenay-Comox deserve to know where their MLA stands on critical issues like Truth and Reconciliation.”
