Singh calls on Poilievre to remove Gunn « Canada’s NDP

April 6, 2025 at 5:00 am  Federal, Politics

This morning in Halifax, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh called on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to fire his North Island-Powell River candidate Aaron Gunn.

Over the weekend, calls for Gunn to resign or be fired have continued to grow.

25 Mayors and Councilors representing major communities in the region have signed a letter to Poilievre.

The Union of BC Indian Chiefs, the BC First Nations Leadership Council, and the Regional Chief of the BC Assembly of First Nations have all called on Poilievre to take action.

Yesterday, Poilievre attacked those leaders and accused them of spreading misinformation – even though Gunn’s comments clearly diminished the harm of residential schools.

Video of Singh’s comments is available here.
