Conservatives and Liberals Lose Controversial Candidates: Campaign Managers panel – April 1, 2025
Former Liberal candidate Paul Chiang’s comments about his Conservative opponent made headlines at the start of the second week of the federal election campaign. Liberal leader Mark Carney defended him at first, but Chiang eventually resigned late on Monday night. This contrasts with the approach of the Conservative Party, which quickly let its candidate Mark McKenzie go because of an inappropriate comment he made on a podcast. Does Carney’s unwillingness to remove Chiang as a candidate demonstrate a failure to take control by the Liberal leader? CPAC’s Michael Serapio discusses the matter, as well as the latest news from the campaigns of both the Conservatives and the NDP, with former campaign managers Michele Cadario (Liberal), Jordan Paquet (Conservative) and Cheryl Oates (NDP).
