Jagmeet Singh targets corporate landlords in campaign pledge – March 28, 2025

In Toronto, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh takes aim at corporate landlords by pledging to ban corporations from purchasing affordable rental buildings. The NDP leader also proposes increasing the federal rental protection fund to help non-profits buy affordable apartments.

Singh is joined by Clare Hacksel, NDP candidate for Toronto Danforth, and Erin Filby, a local renter whose building was bought by Brookfield Investments while now-Liberal Leader Mark Carney was its chair.

Responding to questions from reporters, Singh discusses what he thinks the federal response should be to U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to impose tariffs on automotive imports.
