NDP racks up union endorsements as transit workers support Singh « Canada’s NDP

TORONTO – On Tuesday, Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh secured another union endorsed from the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Canada, as workers across the country throw their support behind the NDP.

ATU represents over 35,000 Canadian bus drivers, transit operators, mechanics, and maintenance workers across the country, such as in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Windsor and Hamilton.

“It’s an honour to have transit workers back the NDP,” said Singh. “Workers are saying loud and clear that it’s the NDP who will protect their jobs and make life more affordable as Trump wages his illegal trade war.

“Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre will never understand what it’s like to lie awake at night, worried about losing your job,” said Singh.

Poilievre wants to sell off public transit to corporations that cut corners and lay off workers to boost profits. Carney is more focused on tax breaks for the ultra-rich than helping everyday people.

Only the NDP will stand up to the billionaires trying to run the show—and protect public services like transit from cuts and privatization.

Canadian workers are sending a clear signal about who will fight for them – as Jagmeet Singh’s NDP has now been endorsed by Steelworkers, CUPE, and ATU.

“New Democrats believe workers are worth fighting for,” added Singh. “Poilievre stood silent when workers lost their jobs in the last crisis, and Mark Carney built his wealth helping banks and billionaires. They won’t fight for you – they never have. New Democrats are proud to have the backing of so many unions across this country. NDP values are Canadian values, and we will keep fighting for you.”
