Singh celebrates May 1 expansion of NDP’s dental care program « Canada’s NDP

Canada’s NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh made the following statement in response to the NDP Dental Care Plan being rolled out for all Canadian adults making less than $90,000 a year on May 1:

“Thank you to everyone who fought for dental care, the advocates who gave a voice to regular families, and the everyday people who reached out to share your story and tell the NDP team to keep up the fight. Thanks to you, 3.5 million Canadians are getting care, and millions more will be able to sign up on May 1.

Every day, there are Canadians in emergency rooms for pain in their mouth because they couldn’t afford to see a dentist. But when I first raised dental coverage with the Liberals, they claimed it would take “seven years” to get it done. They tried to stop it, block it and drag it out. Now Mark Carney is vowing to make deep cuts while he gave multi-millionaires a tax cut worth $19 billion. Regular people will have to pay for that – so dental care just isn’t safe with him.

Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives will cut dental care. They will tell seniors who need dentures to eat and kids with a painful cavity that the help they need is gone, it’s done, Pierre’s taking it away. Conservatives believe working people should pay for health care or suffer, even though Poilievre has a dental care plan.

Dental care is health care, and everyone deserves access to it. That’s what we’re fighting for. When the NDP fights, Canadians win.”
