Ottawa, ON—The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Purim:

“As the sun sets tonight, Jewish families across our country will gather to celebrate the joy of Purim and extend the spirit of goodwill by donating to those in need.

“It’s a celebration that has occurred for thousands of years as Haman’s plot to see the complete destruction of the Jewish people was foiled. His antisemitism – the world’s most ugly and enduring form of hatred – has all too often been repeated throughout history. Even in our time, we have witnessed the genocidal attack by Hamas on Israel.

“But as we reflect on the story of Purim, we are reminded that the forces of evil will never overcome the strength of the Jewish people. With Esther’s bravery as their model, the Jewish people have stood resolute and proud in their faith and identity as a people, even in times where their security was threatened.

“Today, we join with Jewish communities across Canada, Israel and around the world in proudly celebrating Purim. May the story of Esther continue to bring comfort, happiness and renewed resilience in the face of great adversity.

“Chag Purim Sameach.”
