NDP welcomes long-awaited rollout of the Canada Disability Benefit « Canada’s NDP

NDP Disability and Inclusion critic Bonita Zarrillo (Port Moody – Coquitlam) made the following statement in reaction to the announcement that Canada Disability Benefit cheques will be delivered this summer:

“After a long and hard fight, people living with disabilities will finally get a bit of relief to tackle high costs and added expenses.

For years, the Liberal government delayed this benefit, leaving people with disabilities struggling to pay their bills. But people with disabilities and New Democrats fought back and secured a monthly $200 relief starting this summer. This isn’t nearly enough, and the Liberals have refused to provide the support people need. People with disabilities shouldn’t have to fight their government and with a New Democratic government they wouldn’t have to.

Only an NDP government will deliver meaningful help, ending unfair disability claw backs and making it easier to access benefits to lift more people with disabilities out of poverty.

Canadians deserve a government that puts them first. But with the Liberals, it’s been disappointment after disappointment – the only thing they seem to be consistent at is letting you down. Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives are not the answer—they will take away support from people to give more to billionaires.

New Democrats are in it for you.”
