Just The Facts: Gun Crime Surges By 29 Percent Under Carney-Trudeau Liberals

Ottawa, ON — After nine years, the Carney-Trudeau Liberals have unleashed a crime wave in our communities.

This was confirmed today by Statistics Canada, who revealed that the rate of firearm-related violent crime has surged 29 percent while the number of victims has grown by nearly 19 percent.

Rural Canada also saw increases in the firearm-related violent crime rate in 2023 with a 19 percent rise in the provincial rural south and 6.5 percent growth in the provincial rural north. Similarly, the provincial urban north experienced a 13 percent surge in firearm-related violent crime and the territories saw a 6.5 percent increase.

This has been driven by the Liberals’ radical bills C-75 and C-5, which ended mandatory jail time for certain violent crimes and allowed violent, repeat offenders to be released on bail. The Liberals’ catch-and-release policies are made worse after they lost control of our border. Toronto Police have reported that 85% of the handguns they seized had come from the US.

As a direct result of this, violent crime has skyrocketed by 50 percent, and total incidents of violent gun crime use has surged 116 percent. Meanwhile, in 2022, 256 people charged with homicide were out on release from the Liberals’ catch-and-release policies.

The last thing Canadians need is another soft-on-crime, Just Like Justin Liberal. Only Common Sense Conservatives will take back control of our border with our Canada First plan, and bring home safe streets by giving violent repeat offenders jail, not bail.
