Carney Says 50,000 Dead Canadians Is Not A Crisis

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of the NDP-Liberal Government, nearly 50,000 Canadians have died of opioid overdoses. Our once-safe towns and cities have been overwhelmed with drugs, death and disorder. Police continue to discover “superlabs,” capable of making enough fentanyl to kill every Canadian twice over.

But according to Mark Carney, this 200 percent increase in annual opioid overdose deaths is not a crisis. Speaking at an event in Kelowna, BC last night, Carney said:

“Fentanyl is an absolute crisis in the United States. It’s a challenge here, but it’s a crisis there.”

Carney has never been more out of touch with Canadians. In Kelowna alone, the city has witnessed an explosion in overdoses and the establishment of a large homeless encampment. Across British Columbia, 2,253 people died from overdoses in 2024, a rate of more than six deaths per day.

This happened after the radical BC NDP Government joined forces with the Liberals to legalize hard drugs across the province. They also repealed mandatory minimums for drug traffickers, even though fentanyl dealers are murdering Canadians every day.

Under the NDP-Liberals, drug manufacturing has exploded in Canada. In November last year, the RCMP uncovered the “largest and most sophisticated fentanyl and methamphetamine drug super lab in Canada.” And Canadian-sourced fentanyl has been discovered as far away as Australia.

But Carney has been hiding from the media, refusing to say whether he supports disastrous NDP-Liberal experiments that have spread misery across Canada. No wonder Carney has received the endorsement of Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who bragged about eliminating mandatory jail time for hard drug producers.

The last thing Canadians need is another Just Like Justin Liberal who supports the same destructive and radical policies. Only Common Sense Conservatives will stop handing out taxpayer-funded hard drugs, impose mandatory life sentences on fentanyl kingpins, secure our borders and invest in treatment and recovery to bring home our loved ones drug-free.
