At a news conference in Ottawa, representatives from several human rights groups call on Thailand’s government to halt the deportation of dozens of Uyghur refugees to China. Experts from the United Nations and other organizations have warned that the detainees are at risk of human rights abuses if they are returned.

Speaking with reporters are Liberal MP Sameer Zuberi, Mehmet Tohti (executive director of Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project), Dr. Aliya Khan (clinical professor of medicine), Sarah Teich (co-founder and president of Human Rights Action Group), and Raziya Mahmut (member of the Uyghur Association of Canada and vice-director of Uyghur Academy Canada).
