Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Lunar New Year:

“Today, Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives wish a healthy, happy and prosperous Lunar New Year to all Canadians of Asian descent.

“Whether you’re celebrating Chinese New Year, Seollal, Tet, or the Spring Festival, this incredible holiday unites nearly 2 billion people around the world in celebrating the possibility of new beginnings.

“Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying the time-honoured traditions of the season with Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and East and South-East Asian communities across the country. From sharing festive meals to watching luminous parades and handing out Lunar New Year lucky envelopes, these celebrations have always been filled with an overflowing sense of renewal in our shared values of faith, family, freedom and tradition.

“This year, as we welcome the Year of the Snake, we toast to its promise of luck, wisdom and transformation with the hope that better days are ahead for our common Canadian home.

“To all celebrating today, happy Year of the Snake!”
