Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on National Day Of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women:

“Geneviève Bergeron. Hélène Colgan. Nathalie Croteau. Barbara Daigneault. Anne-Marie Edward. Maud Haviernick. Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz. Maryse Laganière. Maryse Leclair. Anne-Marie Lemay. Sonia Pelletier. Michèle Richard. Annie St-Arneault. Annie Turcotte.

“Today, we call out the names of the 14 young women in engineering whose futures were brutally stolen in the École Polytechnique massacre. We think of the 13 others left with injuries, both visible and invisible, targeted simply because they were women.

“35 years later, this brutality is remembered as one of the worst attacks on women and on the values that unite us.

“Canada’s promise is one of guaranteed freedom, safety and opportunity for all, regardless of gender or origin. Any form of violence against women is totally unacceptable.

“As we remember the victims of this tragedy and honour the resilient survivors, Conservatives vow to always defend our country’s promise against the forces that threaten it – and ensure that it remains a place where women and girls are free, safe and empowered to build their futures.”
