Canada-U.S. relations, fall economic statement – December 4, 2024

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau comments briefly on his recent meeting with opposition party leaders to discuss Canada-U.S. relations and border security issues. This comes following U. S. President-election Donald Trump’s recent threat to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico.

Ministers Dan Vandal (northern affairs), François-Philippe Champagne (innovation), as well as Liberal MP Charles Sousa and Bloc Québécois MP Denis Trudel face questions on whether the minority Liberal government will present a fall economic statement. Earlier in the day, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s called on the government to present the economic update on Monday in the House of Commons.

Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett responds to questions on Minister Harjit Sajjan’s (emergency preparedness) decision to accept taxpayer-funded Taylor Swift tickets for himself and his daughter.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May and Green MP Mike Morrice speak about their party’s priorities before the House of Commons rises for its winter break.
