Liberals comment on rebate cheques, Trump’s tariff threat – November 27, 2024

Ministers and MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. The meeting comes as the NDP and the Bloc Québécois are calling for the Liberal government to expand the eligibility of their proposed one-time $250 rebate cheques to include seniors and other vulnerable Canadians.

Commenting on this are Ministers Sean Fraser (housing), Steven MacKinnon (labour), Mark Holland (health), Arif Virani (justice), Soraya Martinez Ferrada (tourism), Steven Guilbeault (environment), Jean-Yves Duclos (public services) as well as MPs David McGuinty, Kody Blois, John McKay, Chris Bittle, Sean Casey, Marcus Powlowski, Anthony Housefather, Darrell Samson, Fayçal El-Khoury, Francis Drouin and Adam van Koeverden.

François-Philippe Champagne (innovation) faces questions on Wednesday’s first ministers’ meeting on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 25 per cent on all imports from Canada if certain border issues aren’t addressed.
Guilbeault also discusses the federal government’s plan to reduce carbon emissions and Alberta’s opposition to the policy.
Additionally, MacKinnon comments on the ongoing negotiations between parties to end the Canada Post strike, which began nearly two weeks ago.
