New BC NDP Government Caucus leadership team ready to get to work

VICTORIA – Today the new BC NDP Government Caucus Executive was appointed, and nominees announced for Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Deputy Chair of Committee of the Whole.

“I’m proud of this capable and experienced team. They will be laser focused on the priorities of British Columbians,” Premier David Eby said. “This group will help our team deliver on the challenges British Columbians want action on: affordability, a strong healthcare system, safe communities and a clean and growing economy.”

New caucus chair Stephanie Higginson, MLA for Ladysmith-Oceanside, said: “I’m excited to be taking on this important role, supporting and empowering our team so we can all do our very best work to make life better for people in B.C.”

The complete BC NDP Government Caucus Executive:

  • Premier – David Eby (Vancouver-Point Grey)
  • Deputy Premier – Niki Sharma (Vancouver-Hastings)
  • Government House Leader – Mike Farnworth (Port Coquitlam)
  • Deputy Government House Leader – Ravi Parmar (Langford-Highlands)
  • Caucus Chair – Stephanie Higginson (Ladysmith-Oceanside)
  • Deputy Caucus Chair – Rohini Arora (Burnaby East)
  • Government Whip – Janet Routledge (Burnaby North)
  • Deputy Government Whip  Amna Shah (Surrey City Centre)

 

In addition to the caucus executive, Raj Chouhan (Burnaby-New Westminster) was re-nominated for Speaker of the House. Mable Elmore (Vancouver-Kensington) was announced as the nominee for Deputy Speaker and George Anderson (Nanaimo-Lantzville) was announced as the nominee for Deputy Chair, Committee of the Whole. These positions will be elected by the house at the first sitting of the new parliament.
