Just The Facts: Employment Fails To Keep Up With Population Growth

Ottawa, ON – After nine years, the NDP-Liberal Government is failing to create enough jobs to keep pace with Canada’s growing population.

This was confirmed in Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, which showed that year-over-year, employment had increased by 313,000 (+1.5%) in September, while the working age population has increased by 1.2 million (+3.6%). This is an enormous employment deficit that leaves more Canadians competing for fewer jobs and more people out of work.

In fact, the employment rate has “followed a downward trend” since January and February of 2023. This, combined with Canada’s falling GDP per capita, which is on track to decrease for six consecutive quarters, is a disaster for Canadian workers. Under Trudeau, the per-person income of Canadians has now fallen back to the same level it was in 2015.

On top of this, the unemployment rate across Canada has risen by a full percentage point, reflecting the damage that Trudeau’s economic vandalism has done.

Enough is enough. Canadians deserve a Common Sense Conservative government that will axe the tax, fix the budget and implement a bring it home tax cut to create jobs and bring home powerful paycheques for Canadians.
