October 08, 2024 [Kamloops, BC] – The Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (KSO) is thrilled to showcase an extraordinary weekend of music for all ages, featuring two highly anticipated events that promise to enchant and entertain.

Alex Cuba & the KSO – November 1 & 2

As part of the Kelson Group Pops series, the KSO is excited to present Alex Cuba live in concert with the KSO on Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Sagebrush Theatre. This unique collaboration will blend Alex Cuba’s smooth fusion of Latin pop, jazz, and rock with the lush sound of the KSO under the direction of KSO Music Director Dina Gilbert.

Renowned for his soulful voice, dynamic performances, and eclectic sound, the Northern BC superstar is the 2022 Grammy Award winner for Best Latin Pop Album, a two-time Juno Award winner, and a four-time Latin Grammy Award recipient. Audiences can expect a vibrant mix of rhythms and melodies that will take them on a musical journey to the sun-laden beaches of Havana. This collaboration promises to be an unforgettable musical celebration that will leave audiences dancing in their seats.

Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid – November 3

Dive under the sea with Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid on Sunday, November 3, 2024! The KSO invites families and young audiences to a magical retelling of this beloved fairy tale, the first event in their new Kids Concerts & Relaxed Performances series.

With music inspired by Grieg’s iconic Peer Gynt Suites, conducted by KSO Music Director Dina Gilbert and narrated by local children’s author George Johnson, this performance presented by Best Western Plus! introduces children and families to the joy of orchestral music in an engaging, accessible way. Whether you’re a long-time music lover or new to the symphony, The Little Mermaid will capture your imagination with its stunning score and timeless story.

Before the concert, audiences will be able to explore the joys of music at the KSO Music School Overture, where future maestros and virtuosos can try different instruments, get creative, or just have fun with musical and artistic activities. The fun starts at 1 PM in the Sagebrush Theatre lobby.

The Relaxed Performance at 4 PM offers a sensory-friendly environment for those who benefit from a more flexible and welcoming concert experience, including modified lighting, sound adjustments, and the ability to move around to help ensure all audiences feel comfortable in the concert hall. Designed for neuro-divergent audiences, relaxed performances provide anyone looking for a more relaxed atmosphere engage with music.
