Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill before the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. They face questions on their party’s byelection loss to the Bloc Québécois in the longtime Liberal stronghold of LaSalle-Émard-Verdun, Que.

Speaking with reporters are ministers François-Philippe Champagne (innovation), Randy Boissonnault (employment), Diane Lebouthillier (fisheries), Marc Miller (immigration), Mary Ng (trade), Karina Gould (government House leader), Pablo Rodriguez (transport), Dan Vandal (northern affairs), Anita Anand (Treasury Board president), Mélanie Joly (foreign affairs) and Soraya Martinez Ferrada (tourism).

Anand and Vandal also comment on Canada’s inflation rate, which finally hit the Bank of Canada’s target of 2 per cent in August.

Jonathan Wilkinson (natural resources) discusses B.C. Premier David Eby’s recent pledge to scrap the provincial consumer carbon tax if there are changes to the federal legislation.
