MPs on alleged targeting of Michael Chong, Imperial Oil‘s Kearl oilsands mine probe – May 4, 2023

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Conservative MPs Michael Chong and Chris Warkentin discuss the government’s response to the alleged targeting of Chong and his family by a Chinese diplomat. Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne is asked about the possible repercussions if Canada expels the diplomat involved. Alberta Conservative MP Greg McLean reacts to the federal government’s decision to launch an official investigation into Imperial Oil‘s Kearl oilsands facility in northern Alberta. The probe follows two spills of toxic tailings water from the mine in the last year.
