BC NDP MLA Osborne says expanded BC Transit services will support commuters in the Alberni-Clayoquot region
PORT ALBERNI – People who use transit in the Alberni-Clayoquot region will see improved service as a result of expanded BC Transit service, says Josie Osborne, BC NDP MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim.
“People in our community who use bus and handyDART services want to know they can rely on these services to get them from place to place,” said Josie Osborne, BC NDP MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “This expansion will help commuters of all ages and abilities.”
To promote increased ridership and support the continued growth of public transit in the region, BC Transit is providing expanded service with support from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. In Mid Island-Pacific Rim, this expansion means more handyDART weekday service with an additional vehicle to support additional trips at peak times as well as the introduction of basic Saturday handyDART service (4 hours per day).
This investment in the local transit system ensures that public transit services can continue to offer dependable transportation options for people in the Alberni-Clayoquot region.
The expanded service in this community is part of improved transit service in communities across B.C. To support communities and the increased demand for public transit, the Province is committing $298 million for new BC Transit system expansion. BC Transit is expanding systems to shape the growth of communities that will benefit from new routes, more buses and improved service.
