NDP warns Trudeau on CPKC and CN railways’ lockout notice « Canada’s NDP

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh released the following statement in response to CPKC and CN railways’ lockout notice to employees:

“Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have repeatedly threatened and passed anti-worker back-to-work legislation, and imposed binding arbitration to repeatedly undermine the right of working people to bargain their collective agreement. When corporate giants like CPKC and CN think the government will once again swoop in at the last minute to give them what they want, what incentive do they have to negotiate in good faith with workers?

That’s why I’m calling for Justin Trudeau to make it clear right now that he will not intervene with a favour for CPKC and CN, and that he expects the two rail giants to negotiate a fair settlement with Teamsters Canada.

Last time they were in government, Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives proudly stood with the big bosses of CP to pass a back-to-work legislation, undermining workers.

Canada’s NDP stands in solidarity with the Teamsters Canada workers who keep Canada’s economy moving. We believe they deserve decent wages to keep putting food on the table, the working conditions needed to keep workers and communities safe, respect from their government, and the right to sit across from their employer and negotiate.”
