NDP statement on National Acadian Day « Canada’s NDP

August 15, 2024 at 2:30 am  Federal, Politics

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“The impact of Acadians on Canada’s history is profound, as is the incredible legacy handed down to each generation of Acadian. As one of the oldest francophone communities in Canada, Acadians have fought hard to keep their own distinct language and culture alive.

From facing exile and persecution, they have been able to put down strong roots in eastern Canada, where they added to our nation’s cultural make-up.

Today, festivals are happening throughout communities along our east coast, where people are taking to the streets in celebration of their Acadian heritage. For everyone celebrating today, New Democrats want you to be as loud as you can be as you take part in a Tintamarre, and to keep showing pride in your Acadian identity.

Joyeuse Fête nationale de L’Acadie!”
