Backgrounder: Communities in British Columbia to benefit from investments in active transportation

The federal government is investing $5,726,400 through the Active Transportation Fund (ATF) to support six projects across British Columbia.

Seaside Greenway Improvements – Kits Park to Burrard Bridge

Funding will support the creation of approximately 1 km cycling path on the Seaside Greenway in Kitsilano Beach Park from Balsam Street to McNicoll Avenue, as well as the addition of bike racks to facilitate and encourage cycling in the Park. Seaside Greenway is a 28 km route connecting the Vancouver Convention Centre with Spanish Banks.

District of Peachland

New multi-use active transportation corridor between Peachland and Goats Peak Regional Park**

Funding will support a 2.6 km multi-use pathway that creates an active transportation connection between the town of Peachland and the City of West Kelowna. It is a key link of a 250 km pan-Okanagan Valley trail serving its 315,000 residents.

Matsqui IR4 Multi-use Pathway

Funding will support the construction of a multi-use pathway that will provide an off-street, on-reserve alternative to walking or biking along 272 Street.

Sq’ewlets First Nation

Sq’éwlets Cultural and Recreational Multi-use Trail Project**

Funding will support the development of the Sq’éwlets Cultural and Recreational Multi-use Trail. This is the first phase of a greater comprehensive trail network in the community. This 775 m segment of trail will begin on the north side of Lougheed Highway, running adjacent to the Sq’éwlets cemetery. The trail will connect to an upper viewpoint overlooking Harrison Bay.

Active Transportation Network Plan and Feasibility Design for an Active Transportation Hub in Tsartlip First Nation

Funding will develop an active transportation plan to support future development of infrastructure on-reserve.

Tsleil-Waututh Nation

Apex Corridor Segment 2-4 Multi-use Pathway Connection, Tsleil-Waututh Nation*

Funding will support the construction of a multi-use pathway, a sidewalk and a bridge over a creek. The project will play an important role in enhancing multi-modal connectivity by linking two neighborhoods: the established residential community of Raven Woods with the Apex Area.
