WINNIPEG — Working people and their elected union leaders joined forces in Elmwood-Transcona Thursday to throw their support behind the NDP candidate in the federal byelection for Elmwood-Transcona, Leila Dance.

“The choice in this by-election is between the NDP and the Conservatives. If you want lower rents, lower groceries and better pay, you need an NDP MP. Leila Dance will be an MP who works for you,” said President of Canadian Labour Congress Bea Bruske.

“The Conservatives think that running a candidate with a union card will erase their record of cuts to health care, attacks on affordable child care and votes to cut pensions. But voters know better, the Conservatives will always side with billionaire bosses against workers.”

Leila Dance said she was humbled and honoured to receive the backing.

“People are who we fight for. Your children, your parents, your neighbours and your community are who we stand with,” said Dance. “I’m running to work for my community of Elmwood—Transcona. This election is about who can send a message to Trudeau while stopping Poilievre’s Conservatives, and their cuts.”

Endorsements for Leila Dance and the NDP in Elmwood—Transcona rolled in Thursday, including:

  • Bea Bruske, President, Canadian Labour Congress
  • Dave McPhail, Business Manager, IBEW 2085
  • Kevin Rebeck, President, Manitoba Federation of Labour
  • Melissa Dvorak, President, Winnipeg Labour Council
