Full Name: Kazia Poore

Medium: Acrylic and Photography

How long have you been doing your art: I was the kid who never stopped making art. I had my first oil paint set at 13 and my first DSLR camera when I was 16.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: The ability to express myself without using words. Oftentimes my paintings are a bit of a self-portrait, I place a small figure in the midst of colour and contrast to express my emotion. I became interested in hands while at TRU, particularly in photography, and how they can act as a portrait of someone. I carried the subject matter through into my painting as another way to play with the subject.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I have learned to trust the process, not just in art but in various aspects of life.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: I enjoy getting into a flow state where nothing else matters.

What is your favourite joke/quote: The time will pass anyway, so you may as well do it.

What do you think makes art important: I think art is important because it lets people feel something. How a piece of art speaks to me will say something else to somebody else.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I value community and the perpetuation of art in our culture. The best way to support your community is to take part in it.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): I’m looking forward to working on my piece for the Orange show at Gallery 635.
