MLA Jennifer Rice announces retirement after serving North Coast for over 10 years
VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health Jennifer Rice announced today that she will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming provincial election.
“When Kevin Falcon criticized the NDP suggesting that this is the best job New Democrats have ever had, he was (mostly) right, and I have no shame in that, because what a privilege to be able to wake up every day, and ask yourself what can I do today to make life better for people?” says Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast. “Up until recently this was the best job, but my favourite job in the world right now is being a mom. And that’s what I’m going to focus on for the next while – for now. Much has been accomplished but of course there’s much more to do and I want to keep doing it!”
Jennifer Rice was elected MLA for North Coast in 2013, 2017 and re-elected in 2020. Prior to being the PS for Rural Health, she served as the PS for Emergency Preparedness for six years.
Rice will continue to serve as MLA of North Coast until the fall election.
