NDP Veterans critic Rachel Blaney made the following statement:

“Today, we remember and recognize the sacrifices and lives lost during the Second World War.

The war cost 40 million civilians and 20 million soldiers their lives. Today we remember them as on this day in 1945, the war ended, and allied countries celebrated the beginning of a new era of peace.

New Democrats will be thinking of all those who lost their lives, from the Canadian veterans who fought for our freedom to innocent civilians. We ask all Canadians to take a moment, and join us in remembering and honouring the men and women who sacrificed their lives and think of those who continue to fight to build a better, more peaceful and just world.”
