CAMPBELL RIVER – New Democrat MLA Michele Babchuk says new support for manufacturing businesses in Campbell River and Port McNeill will create jobs, promote the development of made-in-B.C. products and strengthen local communities and their economies.

“By supporting our local manufacturing businesses, we can ensure that our communities have diverse and sustainable economies that will help us thrive for years to come, “ said Michele Babchuk, MLA for North Island. “These projects are great examples of what incredible businesses and ideas our small towns have to offer.”

Through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund, the BC New Democrat government is contributing up to $100,000 toward 2 projects in the region that will see local businesses grow and create new jobs, including:

  • Port McNeill – Atli Chip LP processes wood chips and hog fuel for the pulp and paper industry. It will receive as much as $50,000 to complete a technical assessment to help determine costs and requirements for replacing aging onsite infrastructure and ensuring ongoing viability.
  • Campbell River – Tiičma Management Services Limited Partnership is the economic development arm of Kyuquot and Checleseht First Nation. Tiičma is receiving up to $50,000 for operational and technical assessments required for a potential capital project that will construct an electric boat manufacturing facility.

The BC New Democrat government is taking action through the StrongerBC Economic Plan to build a strong and sustainable economy through clean and inclusive growth. Supporting local manufacturing sectors helps build a more innovative economy for people, businesses and communities throughout B.C.
