MLA Osborne says funding for local airport will support services in Tofino and Ucluelet
TOFINO – New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne says people and businesses will benefit from funding announced today for regional airport upgrades.
“The Tofino – Long Beach Airport is an important transportation hub for the West Coast region, serving local residents, visitors and businesses and playing an important role during emergencies,” said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “This upgrade will Increase the airport’s resiliency and reliability, especially during times of adverse weather.”
The Tofino-Long Beach Airport is getting $271,700 for a back-up generator for emergency preparedness.
Across the province, the New Democrat government is investing $11 million this year to support 26 projects at two dozen regional airports through the BC Air Access Program. The program is open to facilities that serve fewer than one million passengers per year.
Since 2017, the BC Air Access Program has provided more than $63 million in grants to support infrastructure improvement projects at 71 regional airports and air facilities.
