Campbell River, BC – Green Party of Canada leaders Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault welcomed Jessica Wegg to the party’s shadow cabinet on Sunday, March 2nd. The announcement came during a town hall meeting in Campbell River for “Today, Tomorrow, Together: The Green Leaders’ Tour”.

The Green shadow cabinet is a diverse team of skilled Greens from across the country. Jessica Wegg, the nominated candidate for North Island Powell River and the first Green candidate confirmed for the anticipated October 20, 2025, election, is joining the group as International Trade Critic.

“Jessica’s extensive background in law, especially in international trade disputes, makes her an invaluable addition to our team as the Trade Critic,” said Elizabeth May. “We’re honoured to have her take on this vital role.”

Jessica, a Comox resident with her husband and two children, has a long history of advocating for human rights. Born in Calgary and raised in rural Indiana, she pursued a double major in German and Psychology at the University of Indianapolis, followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. Jessica then graduated from the McKinney School of Law at Indiana University in 2009 and is licensed to practice law in the U.S., Ontario, and B.C.

For over a decade, Jessica has dedicated her legal career to representing those often overlooked by society—incarcerated individuals denied medical care, victims of police brutality, families affected by wrongful deaths at the hands of police, and survivors of abuse. In B.C., her focus has shifted towards Indigenous legal issues, working collaboratively to support First Nations on their journey toward Treaty.

Jessica’s campaign with the Green Party of Canada is driven by her belief in climate justice as a fundamental human right.
