TRU Sweater Day – TRU Newsroom

TRU Sweater Day – TRU Newsroom

January 26, 2024 at 6:24 pm  Education, Kamloops, News

The TRU Sustainability Office is excited to announce its annual Sweater Day event to raise awareness of the ways we can reduce energy consumption during chilly winter days.

The main event is Thursday, Feb. 15 from noon to 3 pm in Old Main Student Street and will consist of a photo booth, the famous Blender Bike, hot chocolate, cookies, free mugs and sweaters and a chance to donate clothing.

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to wear a sweater while the temperature in most campus buildings is lowered by a maximum of 1 degree Celsius from Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, Feb. 18.

Lowering the thermostat by just a few degrees saves approximately 10% in energy consumption.

Participation is encouraged at home as well—together we can keep energy usage and costs down.

Special event details

1. Sweater portrait photo booth and contest

  • Students can enter the contest by taking a photo from home and sharing it over social media or through email [email protected] or there is the option to take a photo on Student Street at Old Main. Sweaters will be judged based on following categories: coziness, ugliest and animal print. Winners will receive the Ultimate Cold Relief Kit.

2. Blender bike, hot chocolate and cookies

  • Hot chocolate and cookies will be offered to anyone who stops by our photo booth.

3. Free sweaters and mugs

  • Our friends at Value Village have kindly donated one hundred mugs—which will be used to serve hot chocolate—and you get to keep the mug! Value Village also donated sweaters and anyone who interacts with our table gets to grab one for free.

4. Warm clothes donations

  • A clothing donation station will also be available for individuals looking to donate any clean and gently used clothing.

Questions about the event can be directed to the TRU Sustainability Office at [email protected].

This event is sponsored by Fortis BC.
