The KIJHL Notebook: January leaders

It’s the final stretch drive as the KIJHL 2023-24 regular season wraps up in a month. This week’s KIJHL Notebook focuses on the top point producers and goalies for each team in January. 

Eddie Mountain Division

Not only has Taylor Haggerty led the Fernie Ghostriders with five goals and five assists in six games, he leads the league in points this month. Defenceman Eric Martin is second on the Ghostriders with two goals and six assists in six games. Goalie Nick Kunyk has three wins with a 2.67 GAA and a .924 SP.

 

 

Parker Konneke leads the Kimberley Dynamiters with two goals and four assists in four games. Konneke is on a 14-game point streak with 11 goals and 11 assists and it’s the longest point streak of any player this season. Defenceman Trey Stephenson has two goals and an assist in two games, while goalie Matt Fleet has a win in four games with a .914 SP and a 3.37 GAA.

 

In five games, Kaelan Shelton leads the Columbia Valley Rockies with three goals and five assists. Shelton, who recently committed to the University of Jamestown Jimmies in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, netted his three goals against the Fernie Ghostriders. Defenceman Paddy Donohue has a goal and two assists in five games. Goalie Nate Glenn has three wins with a 2.63 GAA and a .908 SP.

 

Luke Chakrabarti leads the Creston Valley Thunder Cats with nine points (eight assists) in four games. The Surrey native is six assists away from equaling his season high of 39 established last season. His brother Max has two goals and three assists in four games to lead the blueline. Chakrabarti is the leading KIJHL blueliner with 34 points in 30 games. Dario Cantini has a win in two games with a .923 SP and a 3.98 GAA.

 

Brayden Bissell has three goals and four assists for the Golden Rockets in five games. Defenceman Stefan Bodtker has three assists in five games, while goalie Alex Jessey has a win, a 59-save effort against Columbia Valley, in four games and an .886 SP.

 

 

Neil Murdoch Division

Beaver Valley Nitehawks defenceman Lohgan Nimmo, named the Top Defenceman this week, has four goals and eight points in three games, which also leads all KIJHL defencemen this month. Behind Nimmo is fellow blueliner Liam Ray with two goals and six points in three games. Connor Stojan has two wins with a 2.00 GAA and a .913 SP and has a league-leading 16 wins.

 

Grand Forks Border Bruins captain Ray Warrack has four goals and eight points in four games. Warrack recently committed to the University of Jamestown Jimmies. Tied with Warrack in points is Tyler Burke, who has racked up eight assists and since joining the Border Bruins, Burke has 16 assists in 13 games. Defenceman Reid Schechtel has two goals and three assists in four games. Goalie Ethan Shebansky is 3-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .929 SP. 

 

Logan Lough leads the Castlegar Rebels with a goal and five assists in four games, while defenceman Ausin Lourenco has two goals and an assist in five games. Goalies Ethan Lawczynski and Matteo Hueston each have a win, though Lawczynski has a .882 SP.

 

Quinn Ramsay leads the Nelson Leafs with three goals and two assists in five games, while Bhavin Serown, a new blueline addition, has two assists in four games. Jackson McLeod has two wins in three games with a .878 SP and a 3.25 GAA, while newcomer Karl Soneff, from Copenhagen, Denmark, won his Leafs debut with a 30-save effort and a .938 SP.

 

Tie Schumacher leads the Spokane Braves with two goals, three assists in four games, while defenceman Chase Petrella has a goal and an assist in four games. Goalie Andrew Tworkowski has a win in three games with a .877 SP.

 

 

Bill Ohlhausen Division

Vinay Junek leads the Princeton Posse with seven points, six of them assists, and is one point behind Anmol Garcha for the overall team lead. He has 35 points. Defenceman Jeffrey Stewart has four points in four games. Before his trade to Grand Forks, Gabe Osmond had two wins with a 2.50 GAA and a .923 SP. Joey Hawco won his Posse debut with a 27-save shutout against Osoyoos, and in two games has a 1.50 GAA and a .952 SP.

 

Gage Parcell has two goals and eight points in five games to lead the North Okanagan Knights, while defenceman Colton Fleming has a goal and two assists in five games. In goal, Josh Hager has two wins in three games with a 1.35 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. Hager has a league best .942 SP.

 

 

Matt Saretsky has two goals and six points in five games for the Kelowna Chiefs, while Mathias Reha has a goal and three assists in five games on defence. Goalie Brendan Smith has three wins in four games with a 2.71 GAA and a .901 SP.

 

 

Jordan Gale has four goals and three assists in five games for the Osoyoos Coyotes, while Levi Brewer has four assists in five games. Brewer leads the Coyotes in points with 25 – all assists. Hunter Arntsen and Hayden Lee each have a win, while Arntsen has a .936 SP and a 2.77 GAA.

 

 

Joseph Krukowski leads the Summerland Steam with four goals and an assist in six games, while Rory Mumford has two assists in six games. Jasper Tait has a win in four games with a 2.95 GAA and a .942 SP.

 

 

 

Doug Birks Division

Devon Barclay, Josh Missfeldt, Daniel Kroon and Warren Roberts-Lee each have five points for the Sicamous Eagles, with Kroon and Roberts-Lee have three goals. Missfeldt has five assists from the blueline. Dylan Marshall has two wins in three games with a 2.67 GAA and a .911 SP.

 

 

Luke Aston is producing nearly two points a game for the Revelstoke Grizzlies with 11 in six, while Nathan White has four goals and an assist in five games from the blueline. The 19-year-old defenceman had 10 points in 69 Alberta Junior Hockey League games. Goalie Louis Adler has three wins with a 0.67 GAA and a .972 SP.

 

Evan Clark and Devin Benson each have four points in five games for the Kamloops Storm. Clark has three goals, while Benson has chipped in three assists from the blueline. Goalie Colton Phillips-Watts has won two of his four games with a 1.52 GAA and a .951 SP. 

 

 

Nash Hilworth, Keegan Landry and defenceman Kaden Ernst each have four points in five games for the 100 Mile House Wranglers. Landry has two goals and Ernst played his 100th career KIJHL game against Sicamous. Goalie Ivan Tolsma has two wins in three games with a .906 SP.

 

 

Defenceman Andrew Morris and Kieran Armitage each have three points for the Chase Heat in four games. Morris leads with three assists. Goalie Luke Roberts has a win and was selected as the KIJHL Top Goalie this Week.
