Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Today, Tamils in Canada and worldwide will come together to celebrate Thai Pongal, the harvest festival.
Families across the country will mark the festival by sharing food, reflecting and celebrating good fortune to come. This is a time to rejoice in life’s renewal at the beginning of the new year.
As well, January is Tamil Heritage Month, a month to celebrate the contributions, heritage and culture of Tamil in Canada.
On behalf of all New Democrats, I send my deepest wishes to all those celebrating Thai Pongal.”
