Benson with big night as Storm take Heat in Chase

CHASE,BC — Devin Benson had a three-point night as the Kamloops Storm took the host Chase Heat 7-3 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Saturday (Dec 16). The game was played at the Art Holding Memorial Arena and was the only game the Storm played this weekend.
Benson had two goals and one assist. The goals were the first of the season for the 20-year-old Storm defenseman. He has missed most of the season with injuries.
The win was the second in a row for the Storm in this three-game miniseries before Christmas.
Kamloops led 3-1 after the first period. They were up 5-2 after two periods and outshot Chase 38-31.
The Storm led 20-6 in shots in the opening stanza.
Other Kamloops goals came from: Andon Rende (Kamloops, BC), Jake Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) Teghan Mullin (Kamloops, BC), Ty Horner (Kamloops, BC) and John Spraggs (Vernon, BC).
Benson and Mullin had power play goals while Horner scored his into an empty net.
Chase goals came from Brodie Gohmann (Calgary, AB), Braeden Huth (Calgary, AB), and Kaleb Preymak (Kamloops, BC).
Dawson Holitzki (Kelowna, BC) notched the win in goal for Kamloops. Meyer Gaume (Red Deer, AB) was in goal for Chase.
Kamloops improves to 19-7-0-1 for 39 points in the KIJHL Doug Birks Division. That is a point behind second place Revelstoke and eight behind front running Sicamous. Chase is in the basement of the Birks Division with a 7-26-3 record.
The two teams will conclude the pre-Christmas portion of their KIJHL season Friday night (Dec 22) when they meet up against each other at the McArthur Island Olympic ice surface. Face off is 7 pm. If you can’t make the game live, you can watch it on a pay-per-view basis on FloHockeyTV.
