PORT ALBERNI  New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne says that emergency response and recovery efforts will be strengthened with funding for local emergency operations centres in the Mid Island-Pacific Rim region.

“When disaster strikes, it’s critical to have effective procedures and the right infrastructure in place that will help keep people safe,” says Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “By continuing to strengthen our emergency preparedness efforts, we can work to minimize the impacts of climate change on our communities.”

The following local governments and First Nations are receiving funding in Mid Island-Pacific Rim:

  • Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District: Improving Regional EOC Capacity, $60,000
  • Tofino: EOC Enhancement, Training and Equipment, $30,000
  • Uchucklesaht Tribe: EOC Capability Development, $30,000

Nearly $3 million in funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is going to over 100 local governments and First Nations across B.C. The funding will assist in purchasing and installing equipment and supplies to maintain or improve emergency operations centres.

Emergency operations centres are an essential part of emergency response, where representatives come together to co-ordinate actions and resources, and to support people responding on the ground.
