Hiking the Six Mile Hills

Hiking the Six Mile Hills

The Six Mile Hills area has rocky hills, ponds and marshes, two lakes, double tracks routes, and open slopes suitable for hiking.    We usually hike a route through the hills each year and we paddle one of the lakes in most years.    On this October day, we hiked a 9+ km route under sunny skies.    We drove up the bumpy Six Mile Hill Road from the Tobiano area.

We hiked in a north-bearing direction, winding up through the hills to a viewpoint looking up Kamloops Lake.

Much of the north side of the area has no trails, but we hiked up and then back down to a known track that winds down through the hills, passing seasonal ponds along the way.

We stopped for lunch on the hill above Morgan Lake which had quite a few fishermen in their small boats.

Our route followed old double tracks with many junctions-options along the way.   We passed more ponds on our way to the south side of Pat Lake.

The 9+ km loop route finished around the east end of the lake back to the start.

All hiking in the area requires some navigation and some off-trail hiking, but the rewards of fine scenery make it all worthwhile.
