Dušan’s Top 10 YouTube Videos – The Kamloops Film Society
Unfortunately, due to last week’s COVID-19 health order in British Columbia, the Paramount Theatre is closed until at least December 7. So, though we can’t be your destination for amazing films, we don’t want you to be without entertainment. To that end, here are my top 10 favourite YouTube videos. Don’t judge me too harshly, I’m just a boy from Eastern Europe marvelling at the world. Enjoy.
10. Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #1
If you’ve never seen it, Celebrities Read Mean Tweets is an ongoing segment that Jimmy Kimmel does on his talk show. Some of the tweets are really hilarious, but what I like best about the segment is the way the celebrities react. I think you can tell who would actually be nice in person. There is a whole series of these spanning sports, music, and even Jimmy himself, so you could get lost for a few hours down this rabbit hole.
9. Live footage of Nevada working on those ballots
This is a recent favourite. While North America (and the world) was on pins and needles during the US election some great memes and videos were shared. This is my personal favourite, not only for the great joke, but how awesome this kid is.
8. Charlie the Unicorn
This video is messed up. It seems like it might be for children, but it’s definitely not for children. There is a whole series of stories that I haven’t watched because the two unicorns do get annoying eventually, but this first one has it all: unicorns, songs, and candy.
Gotta be Safe
I’m fairly confident that this is the best safety video ever made. I hope you agree.
6. PIKOTARO – PPAP
This video is so random. But also hilarious. I don’t really know what is going on and I definitely don’t know why, but the guy’s commitment, the clothing, and the dance moves just tickle my fancy every time.
5. Eddie Izzard- Death Star Canteen
This video has two of my favourite things: stand up comedy and Lego. However, be warned, this bit begins my two video series of explicit content videos. Sorry. My parents let me listen to unedited rap albums as a teenager. Blame them.
4. Ice Cube, Kevin Hart And Conan Help A Student Driver
Conan O’Brien is a really funny talk show host, but he is at his best when he’s interacting with his staff (see his series of Jordan Schlansky videos) in these remote videos outside the studio or in their offices. This segment is one of the very best, with the high energy of Kevin Hart and Conan balanced by the cool energy of Ice Cube. But the star of the video is undoubtedly Diana Chang. Warning: Bit of profanity. Okay, maybe more than a bit.
3. 8:46 Dave Chappelle
Most of this list is filled with funny videos and this one is no exception, but Dave Chappelle’s stand-up is always something more than just comedy. This is his response to the murder of George Floyd, and though funny, it is also very impactful.
2. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
This series of videos is so cute it hurts. The voice performance by Jenny Slate is amazing and the technical savvy of the filmmaking elevates the whole premise. If you want your heart to feel warm, give this a watch.
1. Seagulls
In my mind, this is the best video that exists on YouTube, perhaps even the internet. For something so silly, it is very well done, and just when you think you’re laughing as hard as you can, something even more hilarious happens. Good luck getting this out of your head.
BONUS: Channels
Here are some YouTube channels that I am fan of. These are in no particular order.
LastWeekTonight
https://www.youtube.com/user/LastWeekTonight
John Oliver and his team have a tremendous knack for taking arguably dry subjects and making the videos about them relevant, engaging, informative, and hilarious. There are some really important topics covered and I recommend this channel highly.
Graham Norton
https://www.youtube.com/user/OfficialGrahamNorton
Though I enjoy Conan O’Brien, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel, and some others, the best talk show host for my money is Graham Norton. The structure of the show (booze) and Graham’s knowledgeable but easy-going approach gets some amazing revelations and entertaining bits out of even the most serious celebrities.
Joe Rogan
https://www.youtube.com/user/PowerfulJRE
Seeing as he has the most popular podcast in the world, it is no surprise that I too enjoy Joe Rogan. I love that he’ll basically talk to anyone and is willing to dig into subjects in a long form manner where nuance is important. That is rare and appreciated in today’s entertainment.
SomeGoodNews
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOe_y6KKvS3PdIfb9q9pGug
At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, John Krasinski of “The Office” fame gave us this gem of a channel. If you want to feel good about humanity, give these a go.
HouseImprovements

As I have gotten older, I have wanted to sharpen my “work with tools” skills. This channel has been a big help.
DC & Helwani on ESPN MMA
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO4AcsPKEkIqDmbeiZLfd1A
As a MMA fan, I really like this show. They do a great job of getting to all of the weekly issues in the sport, and have excellent knowledge and insights, but on top of that, they have a fun, banter filled relationship that makes the shows all the more entertaining.
Kamloops Film Society
The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
